Results of Committee Meeting with Nillumbik Council

Published on 21st June 2018 in Uncategorized

Council representatives today met with representatives from both our Club and the Ladies’ club. This follows the submissions made by members and our Committee at the recent Council Budget Meeting.

Today’s meeting was positive, with all participants agreeing that a long term plan for the course was imperative.

The good news is:

 – Renovation of the 8th green and bunker will be undertaken in the coming year, as well as the improvement of a number of bunkers

 – The Council is planning a long term contract with a management company and the successful tenderer be required to undertake the maintenance and refurbishment of the course.

Council have conceded that they should have consulted with us prior to the budget being tabled.

They have now agreed to both Clubs jointly submitting a list of requirements for our course.

This will be split between the minimum requirement (such as the continuation of the program to refurbish the greens)and the ‘like to haves’ (perhaps such as a new clubhouse, with meeting rooms for our clubs).

These will then form part of the tender requirements.

We have agreed to having this list in Council’s hands by the end of August.

This is an opportunity for all members to submit their suggestions as to what needs to be done to ensure that  Yarrambat is a course of which we can be proud.

Please keep your suggestions  to ‘big picture’ items and submit them to our Secretary Des by the middle of July latest.

The lessons learned from this exercise are:

 – We have to keep the pressure on Council in the coming months and years, if we want to ensure that we achieve our aims of excellence for our course.

 – We have to point Council in the directions which make funding available, such as State and Federal funding for sports and recreation. (We were surprised that these have not already been investigated by Council).

Des, Ken Crompton and I will be attending the next Council meeting and if there is anything worth reporting, we’ll keep you informed.

Gavin Pearce, Club President.
