False Rumor Regarding Two Members During the Club Championship Third Round
Published on 3rd October 2017 in UncategorizedApparently a rumor, totally false, has been put out among some members of the Club, accusing two of our members who were playing in the horrible weather on that Saturday, of falsifying their scores.
As this fairytale goes, these members were playing alone and supposedly falsified each other’s scores on the day.
The facts are:
· These members were not playing as a two ball, but were part of a group of four.
· They did record good scores on the day, but their scores were far from the only good scores on that day.
· There is no evidence whatsoever that these members falsified their scores.
It appears that this rumor emanated from a casual discussion by two members who were near the Pool table and who were looking at the scores which were in at that stage of the competition.
They commented on how good those two scores were and one of them compared these scores to how poorly he had played.
We confirmed with these members that they were not in any sense suggesting that any scores had been falsified. Before the 4th round of the championships, they spoke with the two members who achieved the good scores and assured them that there was no insinuation of impropriety in their comments
I have today apologized, on behalf of our Club, to one of the two members who was approached on the 1st tee on Monday and told that ‘our Club doesn’t need people like you.’
I hope that the member who made this and other comments will now likewise apologize to the member.
I also hope that any members who broadcast this false story will also apologize, beginning with the person who was in the poolroom, within earshot of the original comments.
Our Club is better than this.
