Jarrod Lyle 2 Ball Ambrose

Published on 8th October 2025 in Uncategorized
A 2 ball ambrose is a golf format where two players form a team, hit drives on each hole, select the best shot, and then both play their second shots from that spot. This process repeats, playing from the same spot until a ball is holed. The team records a single gross score per hole, and a combined handicap (usually the sum of handicaps divided by 4) is then subtracted to determine the net score. Key rules often include using each player’s drive a minimum number of times, placing balls no closer to the hole when moving them, and playing from the same lie (fairway, rough, etc.).

How to Play
  • Team: Two players form a team.

  • Tee Shots: Both players hit a tee shot on each hole.

  • Choose the Best Shot: The team selects the better of the two tee shots.

  • Move the Ball: The other player picks up their ball and places it within one handspan of the chosen ball’s position, without getting any closer to the hole.

  • Repeat: Both players then hit their second shots from that new spot.

  • Continue: The process continues for subsequent shots, selecting the best ball each time and playing from the same lie, until the ball is holed.

  • On the Green: When on the green, balls are placed within a a ball of the marked spot.

Handicap Calculation

  • The team’s handicap is calculated by adding the individual handicaps of both players and then dividing by 4.
Key Considerations
  • Tee Shot Requirement:
Each player’s tee shot is used a minimum 6 times.

  • Scorecard:
The team records only one gross score per hole, noting which player’s drive was selected for that hole.

  • Teamwork:
The format promotes teamwork, as players of different abilities can contribute to the overall score.
