I’m sure I can speak for all our team that played when I say it was truly great course in almost perfect playing conditions, could not have asked for a better day weather wise.

Apart from the final being played all other teams played a stableford comp. Unfortunately we played with 1 team member short but we came away with a very respectable  total score of 177 points.

I can honestly say this course is totally worth the drive.  The best part about the Senior Pennant is that we have been playing for quite some time now and it’s not only healthy competition against other clubs but it’s also extremely social, a lot of friendly faces and great interaction with members of other clubs both public and private – lunch is usually very noisy !

I’m sure that our golf was enjoyed by all. Looking forward to 10 year anniversary next year. Big thank you to Gavin Pearce and Patrick Danaher for all their time and effort.

I would just like to say thank you to each and every player on RED team, I believe we did a great job and I know that everyone put in 100% effort. I must also say thank you to all of you as I have not received one complaint and each member played willingly when requested. We played a great 5 week season, it may not have been the result we would have liked but we did great anyway.

Thank you to all on RED team !!!

See you all next year.

Yarrambat Blue

On a beautiful early autumn day at Gardiners Run Golf Course, the Yarrambat Blues fronted up for the final round of the Senior Pennant energised and full of confidence in their quest for “The Plate”. But alas, it wasn’t to be. It was a day where the course conditions, albeit magnificent, presented some significant challenges that proved to be insurmountable. Certainly the course itself was an absolute pleasure to play on with manicured fairways, tees and greens that were as fast as lightning but true and consistent. Having never played there it was really nothing like what appears on the website and flyover videos of each hole. The fairways were super wide and with very tight lies. The greens were huge and protected by a myriad of bunkers which unfortunately had not been raked after the previous day’s Pro Am so they proved to be one of the bigger challenges.

All team members battled valiantly and are definitely better for the run. I’m sure if we had the opportunity to play there again the results would have been much closer. Some local knowledge of the course would have proved invaluable so maybe next time we can organise a practice round rather than face up cold turkey. Nonetheless it was a fabulous experience and judging by the comments definitely a course we would love to play on again.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank some key people who have made this years Senior Pennant so enjoyable. Of note are Gavin Pearce and Patrick Danaher for spearheading the organisation of the comp, all of the team’s Administrators and Team Captains for their efforts and the golf clubs for making their courses available and presenting the courses in excellent condition. I would also once again like to particularly thank our own Committee for their sponsorship and support of this event. It was really appreciated by every team member.

And in closing, special thanks to my team for making my job so easy. Your commitment and sportsmanship throughout the competition was fantastic and I hope we can do the same next year!

Regards,

Mike Di Vincenzo

YARRAMBLAQ STABLE. Final report for 2024.

On a gloriously clear, clean, crisp Yarra Valley morning, hot air balloons soaring effortlessly in the distance, this magnificent venue selected for the finals of the 2024 Senior Pennant, “GARDINERS RUN” was presented in truly spectacular condition! The entire field had assembled early, abuzz with excitement, you could hear the murmurings of great expectations for the day, “smiles on all dials” so good to see, the majority, playing combined Stableford for the “24 Plate” and a pair of very restrained but eager and optimistic sides vying for the “Holy Grail of Oldies” the 24 Pennant!

Yarrambat Black V Heidelberg Blue, both match-hardened and supremely focused, very close on handicap across all 7 games, the Blacks to concede 7 shots, one team to hold the trophy high and revel in the inevitable bragging rights, the vanquished to lament, lick wounds and ponder 2025!

In an incredibly hard-fought final, we saw the Blacks go down 4 and 3, a couple of games going right to the wire! So, congratulations go to Heidelberg Blues, they are a very solid unit, and commiserations to us, the Blacks, we will not dwell on the result because the entire team represented YGC with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, gracious in defeat, the sun rises tomorrow, so we will be ready to fight another day! On this note I would like to thank the players in the “BLAQ Stables”, it has been an absolute privilege to race into this season with you, the past 5 weeks more than enjoyable, with the Senior competition seemingly going from strength to strength!

All in all a great and successful year for Yarrambat, the players in our little club holding their heads high, a huge achievement to reach the final, for any team! Well done, Yarrambat!

In closing…. A huge shout out to Gav and Patrick, so much work goes into this little comp, but it doesn’t happen without you, so thank you from all, I’m sure! There’s more, the individual course coordinator’s, the captain’s, the golf course’s and last but not least the player’s, it’s a short sharp event that I know everybody really looks forward to!

And finally…

Yarrambat Golf Club, a mighty thank you from all concerned for the generous support shown, it does not go unnoticed!

Until next year. Cheers WILSO.
