YARRAMBAT RED

Well done to RED team with 4 wins and 3 loss, this was a great improvement from previous week. The team faced a very difficult challenge with almost every player having to give their opponent quite a few shots.

Weather conditions made the match even more difficult, but every game was played with 100% effort. The games that were lost came right down to the wire, where it was down to the putting on the last green! It was a fantastic effort by everyone on the day – Congratulations REDS!

YARRAMBAT BLUE

On a sizzling hot day at Royal Yarrambat Golf Course a great round was played on an excellent golf course with once again really good and friendly competition. And The Blues did it again with a crushing 5 1/2 to 1 1/2 result against the formidable Box Hill Mustangs.

Our 2 A graders, Gil and Rod set us up on our winning way with Gil continuing his great form and Rod holding on to finish square. And there he was AGAIN ! The new kid on the block Lance (a contender for Rookie of The Year) cleaning up in his 2nd appearance with a telling victory followed by JC coming back from holidays in excellent shape and taking the chocolates on his return.

Yours truly returned to the playing field after playing 6 rounds of golf in 6 days but was still able to lead by example in his 2/0 come from behind victory. And then we have Gav coming in with a solid 3/2 finish to cap off a great day for the team. Our only loss was by Dave Morley who in my opinion drew the short straw playing Noel Sheane-Smith. Past experience suggests Noel is a far better player than his handicap indicates (he thrashed me last year) so I’m sure Dave will be all guns blazing in future rounds.

It really was another fantastic effort by the Blues and has set us up beautifully for Rosanna next week and of course a run at the finals.

Looking forward to Round 3 at Rosanna Golf Club!

YARRAMBLAQ STABLES. Report. Round 2 held at Royal Yarrambat, 12/2/2024.

Welcome to the Stables round 2 report from a hot and blustery Royal Yarrambat, that witnessed a couple of race day medical emergencies, on behalf of the entire field hope all is well with those players! The firm Yarrambat track presented as good as ever with the rail in the Gold position.

In order………

The MOTSWANIAN PRINCE, after an impressive hit out last week The PRINCE was fired up and he didn’t let the stable down, in a topsy turvy affair that never really looked in doubt, even though he did run off badly on the turn at the 11th, when somehow he was able to square cut the ball with… believe it or not, the very outside toenail of his driver with the ball landing at the base of the 18th blue tee box!!! On closer inspection of the beat up driver there was evidence of this occurring previously, anyway another good solid win!          A 2 UP VICTORY!

YOU’RE A WIMP WILSON, started slowly and just couldn’t keep up with the sizzling hot pace, ( 5 down at the turn courtesy of the oppositions 38 off the beater, no excuses here though!). He was gaining momentum with 600 to go before getting to 2 down but it was a short lived attempt with the finishing line looming large his opponent cruised to an effortless win, a valiant effort from WIMPY but no chocolates!          A 4 AND 3 LOSS!

HIT ME WITH YOUR WITHAM STICK, seemingly succumbing to the shuddering second up syndrome, (is that enough Esses?), and possibly suffering an equine premolar niggle, battled most of the way and even on the corner was a long way behind, as a matter of fact “dormie” 3, but alas the leader wobbled and wobbled big time, the steamy hot day and fast pace had taken its toll, he was pulled up with that “3” to go, lucky WITHO, finished square!          ALL SQUARE!

EFFENQUE, attempted a name change but that was swiftly shut down by all the syndicate owners, after his very easy (TRIAL) win last start again flew the barrier’s going 2 up early and appearing to be jog trotting, but he changed strides and was overtaken with 2 furlongs to go, and could not match the winner, and was a beaten favourite! A veterinarian inspection showed no abnormalities but a Stewards report may be pending!          A 3 AND 1 LOSS!

SMUDGE O’CONNELL, was our worst weighted nag today (5 shots), slow from the gates in what was a lack lustre affair, the SMUDGE just kept chipping away in that usual laconic manner of his to easily pull away in the last furlong to win well, it’s possible there may have been some lingering issues with his last start malaise, hence the easy  run!          A 3 AND 2 WIN!

ROCKABILLY REBEL, no mucking around for the REBEL this week, absolutely bolting from the gates and dead set low flying, setting a new course record for the first 4 furlongs, was 7 up after 7!!! All of a sudden, the REBEL, sprinting more like a Quarter horse, encounters gear problems, a badly slipping saddle every jockey and owners nightmare, but in this case it was his badly slipping buggy wheels, not to worry, Angela, “that lady he lives with” comes to the rescue, delivering a spare set of stirrups, Bang! Trouble is those buggers don’t work either, so amongst all this mayhem over a couple of holes the ever calculating REBEL simply hops into a cart at the turn and continues on his merry way without as much as a batted eyelid! His 5 shot impost nothing to worry about, an all the way cruisy win, running hard held right through the line!         A 6 AND 4 SMASHING!

THE SLIPPERY ONE (Searly), having his first start for the stable this season and fully recovered from his scope last week, shot off to an early lead and looked good in running, consolidating his position easily until the 15th when, was it inexperience or just greenness, proceeded to gawk around and looking for his opponents ball for what seemed an eternity, hmmm was it 6 minutes? So what does SLIPPERY do, he finds the said ball and goes on to “halve” the hole, way way, too generous, so the trainer under the order of connections  will be placing blinkers on him next start! A few cracks of the shillelagh soon got his attention and he saluted on the post a most comfortable winner!          A 5 AND 3 VICTORY!

Another great result for the Stable, it was always a big ask to follow up on the heroics of Round 1, nonetheless a fitting result under trying conditions!

A hearty “congrats” to both the Red and Blue teams on their great showings!

Next meeting is at Royal Rosanna and I hear the track is in exceptional condition, these days we don’t see many fast surfaces but this may be the one! The BLAQ Stable takes on Whittlesea Blue who after 2 rounds sit with only four and a half wins so they will be super keen to try and knock us off!

As always go “BATS”.

Cheers Wilso.
