Yarrambat RED

Good afternoon all,

Firstly congratulations to Blue and Black team today as they have come in with some good results-well done. Also great effort RED team , we came in with 3 square and 4 down, and it could have been better – a few games got “timed out” so we need to be careful to maintain pace of play, it may not be as good as we liked but everyone participated with 100% effort and that’s great.

Thank you to all who played today, especially in weather that was constantly changing, most important its a team effort!

I apologise if I was a bit anti social after the match at lunch but I had a fall on a wet and slippery set of stairs on the 10th and needed to get myself home. I’m fine nothing serious and thanks to Paul and Nicholas for helping get back up.

Report from the Assistant to our Red Captain

To all the Yarrambat Red team and others.
I just wanted to let you know how amazing and brave our Captain Jenny was today. Firstly Jen was 4 down at one point (and her opponent was being ”coached” by a Heidelberg player/manager through those first 4 holes as well (at least ’til he was bum-rushed off!) and she pushed her opponent to the line.
Her skills all came to a head when she was coming off the 18th tee, and still with 3 holes to play she slipped on the steps heavily and landed on her toosh.

In pain, bruised and bloody she trudged on and got to square. We ran out of time otherwise she would have beaten the guy down the 3rd. I only know of one other that has faced greater adversity and that guy nearly drowned in the dam at Rosanna. Well done Jen.

Yarrambat BLUE

On a overcast and drizzly old day at Royal Heidelberg Golf Club a great round was played on an excellent golf course with really good and friendly competition. And what way to kick off the Senior Pennant Competition with a crushing 5 and a 1/2 to 1 and a 1/2 result against the normally very strong Rosanna Reds

Our 2 A graders, Gil and Rod did us proud and led the way with both having convincing wins. The new kid on the block Lance looked very comfortable in his first appearance with a telling victory followed by yours truly leading by example in his effortless 6/5 smashing. Not to be outdone, good old “Mr Reliable” Tommy Finch brought home the bacon. And then we have Gav coming from a long way back to square the ledger against his opponent which in itself was a fantastic effort seeing as he was well behind after only 4 holes.

It really was a fantastic effort by the Blues and has set us up for a run at the finals.

Looking forward to Round 2 at our beloved Yarrambat Golf Course!

Regards,

Mike Di Vincenzo

Yarrambat BLACK

YARRAMBLAQ STABLES.

Welcome to Yarramblaq Stable’s first report for the 2024 Senior’s Pennant, held at Heidelberg on a rather damp but beautiful track.

In order of appearance…….

THE MOTSWANIAN PRINCE, our latest and youngest colt and in his first season came out bucking his brands off all the while ignoring the grumblings from the opposition “is this bloke fair dinkum old enough”. He ran some very hot sectionals and broke his opponent’s heart not to mention his fetlock, (poor thing rolled his ankle climbing out of the 11th bunker) and that was all she wrote, race over with 5 furlongs to go, an easy canter for the Prince, he has adapted well to the Victorian way of going! If he can hold this form, he may be in for an early stud career (or so he thinks). A 5 and 4 victory.

YOU’RE A WIMP WILSON, returning this season as Captain had to overcome a niggling stomach upset, too many oats I think, jumped well, and was never headed it was a solid hit out and he will be better for the run! A 2 and 1 win.

EFFENQUE Shayne Cairns, had a very easy gallop more like a trial run, the veteran flew the gates, straight to the lead for a wire-to-wire comprehensive smashing, he may well be the early favourite for the coveted Star of the Stable award, and, as you all know a much prized and eagerly wanted trophy! A 6 and 5 thumping.

HIT ME WITH YOUR WITHAM STICK, is back in the stables after a very lazy 2023 season and it showed, he knuckled at the start, I wonder if it was a ploy, to lose the first three holes but steadied himself and the halfway mark commenced a long powerful sustained run, displaying that Witho tenacity and conceding 8 strokes, rounded up his opponent at the turn and showing a good turn of foot to streaked into the lead for an easy win, a tremendous effort considering his bad barrier manners! A 5 and 3 victory.

SMUDGE O’CONNELL, did extremely well to recover from an elevated temperature after a slight “turn” on Saturday but was cleared by the Vet on Sunday, SMUDGE typically, showed guts and determination, also relinquishing 8 shots cruised to the line for a very courageous win, watch out for SMUDGY as he regains full fitness! A 6 and 4 thrashing.

ROCKABILLY REBEL John Ward, newly retired REBEL thought he’d had an early win simply by managing to get up at 6 A.M. to make his tee time, he began his first start a little rusty which was to be expected seeing he was badly treated at the weights, a whopping 11 shots, but soon made up ground even after running off at the turn and finding some heavy foliage, SMUDGE saw him play a miraculous shot through trees thicker than the Black Forrest to then run hard to the post  and salute in a real head bobber! A 1 up win.

THE HUSHED NINJA Katsu, knew he had a fight on his hands, surrendering a massive 13 strokes another nasty weight impost, just kept chipping away and his professional stoicism and deafening silence simply overwhelmed his opponent, a great victory that went down to the wire, unfortunately the heavy weight took its toll, and THE NINJA will have a week’s rest! A 1 up win.

Returning next week will be SLIPPERY SEARLY, after a small Veterinary procedure last week, all’s good though, he is super keen to jump onto the highly successful bad wagon that is the YARRAMBLAQ  juggernaut!

An incredible start to the season winning 7 and zip, with the stables chock full of confidence we can’t wait for round 2 to be held at our venerable home course, ROYAL YARRAMBAT!

Well done team, let’s keep the momentum going, this freight train ain’t stopping for anybody! Congrats also to the Blue and Red teams for their solid starts they can only go onwards from here!

Cheers Wilso.
