YGC competitions and gradings.

Members,

In response to the changing demographic of our Club it was raised at the (2021) AGM that the committee would consider trialing an expanded Grade division, to include a D grade. It seems some of our members have grown old(er), some player’s games have gone backwards, and we have more ‘beginner’ golfers (or it could be all the above). Whilst we all strive to improve, and as a Club we are seeking to attract younger players to ensure our longevity, the reality is we have an increasing number of ‘higher’ handicappers.

As we embody the ideals of an inclusive, not for profit Club, our aim is to ‘share the spoils’ – equally, and without prejudice, with more players – not that anybody should play for the prizes, they are merely a pleasant surprise after a good round.

As a guide only.

YGC competitions and indicative grading.

Less than 12 eligible competitors – a competition may not be held. Scores can be handicapped, but prizes (other than Hole in One) may not be awarded.

One grade –             minimum 12 players – up to 25 players

Two grades –           minimum 26 players – up to 44 players

Three grades-          minimum 45+ players

Four grades –           minimum 87 players (and disproportionate numbers for a ‘lower’ grade – ie over 26 handicap)

Grade division guide for single player completions

Monday:                                          3 grades       A +8-14; B 15-19; C 20-36 generally, but grades will vary as numbers dictate.

Wednesday:                                    3 grades       A +8-13; B 14-19; C 20-36 generally, but grades will vary as numbers dictate.

Wednesday: >87 players               4 grades       A +8-12; B 13-18; C 19-25; D 26-36 as a guide (grades can be ‘balanced’ if there are sufficient higher handicapped players to warrant the extra grade)

Saturday:                                         3 grades       A +8-12; B 13-19; C 20-36 generally

Saturday: >87 players                     4 grades       A +8-12; B 13-18; C 19-25; 26-36 as a guide (grades can be ‘balanced’ if there are sufficient higher handicapped players to warrant the extra grade)

Sundays: are generally a single or 2-grade competition; A 0-15 & B 16-36 – but grades will vary as numbers dictate.

Other than Board events, handicap divisions are not fixed and are indicative of general grade separations only – there may be variations, in grades, cut offs or number of divisions from time to time, dependent on the composition of the field.

Graded Board (Championship) events will not vary from A Grade +8-12; B Grade 13-19; C Grade 20-36 (there are no ‘D’ Grade Board events)
