Midweek Champion

After a solid two rounds, the Midweek Championship was really wide open. Being a handicapped event, anyone could potentially swoop in with a great round and take home the chocolates.

Frank Yong, at 5 over, was well placed 3 shots clear of last year’s Foundation Cup winner Rod Mountney, with ‘Mr Consistency’, Michael Lester and a Yarrambat fixture Dale Sudborough both a further shot back at 9 over. Len Davey, Denny Lie, Wally Westcott, Alan Cameron and Al Salmond were all on the ‘front page of the leader board’.

Round 3 was to be a battle of attrition, who could hold it together, who could step up?

Frank Yong found trouble through 6, 7 & 8 to fall by the wayside,
Rod Mountney also stumbled through the turn,
Michael Lester had a slow start and struggled to recover,
Denny Lie also struggled to get going through the front 9, and Len Davey had a tough back 9..

After a rocky start Dale Sudborough found his rhythm, going 1 over from the 5th to the 18th to finish with a nett 76. But Codin Petra-Cretu with an 80 off the stick (nett even par) came from the clouds to just lose by a nose to Dale. Codin will remember the double on 15 for quite a while when only 1 stroke separated the pair after 54 holes. In the end it was Dale’s consistency over the three rounds which prevailed.

After coming close last year, Dale Sudborough takes out the Midweek Championship for 2020.

Congratulations Dale!
