Booking issues and available times

Published on 15th May 2020 in Uncategorized

Members,

On behalf of Belgravia, the  Pro Shop and the Golf Club I would like to apologise for any issues incurred trying to book a round of golf last night, and I fully appreciate the frustration of not being able to ‘get on’. The issues experienced with website access last night were out of our control, and neither the Proshop staff nor I could access the site.

Personally I had my phone, iPad, laptop and desktop all trying on different signals: 4G, NBN, Wi-fi and Dongle with both Telstra and Optus all without success – I kept trying til midnight and everytime I thought I was in, it kicked me out again! So I fully appreciate the level of frustration, especially for those who have not had the opportunity at all to play since restrictions were lifted.

However, no amount of frustration excuses some of the abuse that has been directed toward the Pro Shop staff, or me for that matter – it is a game of golf, it is not life or death.

We should be mindful that, whilst we are Club members, there are hundreds of Belgravia members who also pay their green fees to access the course, and a lot of public players who, in the current environment find themselves out of work and with time on their hands.

A series of cascading events, including issues with internet service providers, the MiClub server, state-wide and nationally, and the Q18 booking system opening early with incorrectly aligned times available resulted in reduced availability for tomorrorw. This was beyond our control, and Belgravia worked extremely hard to free up the spots that we did get as a result of the Q18 error (an independent service provider who have been soundedly chastised!)

(The spots appearing as reserved were not actually ‘reserved’ but had previuosly been booked and paid for online through Q18 – so were blocked to prevent a double booking fiasco)

From Monday 18 May – the normal number of booking spots will be available – please note –  there will be adjustments to when those booking sheets are opened to members.

And for those who want to play outside Club booking times, and still haven’t downloaded the Quick18 booking App, you will need to as no walk-ins are being accepted.

Bookings will no longer open 2 1/2 weeks early for members to book by rote, booking without consideration of weather or their schedule in 16 days time.

Leading into winter, the ‘booking window’ will be reduced to allow members to make a conscious decision to play, having seen the weather forecast and consulted their significant other to seek permission.

The exact opening interval is to be determined by the Committee in consultation with the course management.

It will be somewhere between 7 days to 2 days before. We will update as soon as it is confirmed.

Presently it is set at 7 days while things get back to the new “normal”

Again, I am sorry for the issues that were experienced last night, hopefully they won’t be repeated, and for those lucky enough to get a hit in, enjoy it. (and do those who missed out the courtesy of playing the full 18.)
