Social Distancing – What is it and why is it vital?

Members who wish to continue to stay healthy & not spread the virus MUST respect the vital need for social distancing.
Social distancing involves doing some simple things
- remaining out of congregated settings,
- avoiding gatherings of more than 2 people, and
- maintaining distance
whenever possible to limit the ability of the virus to spread.
How do we do this? Simple…
- Stay at home unless you must go out
- Don’t pop over to a mate’s for a beer or a coffee
- Don’t go visiting famiky outside tour immediate household (those that live with you)
- Imagine that you are infectious, and don’t want to give it to anyone
- If you do have to go out, stay two club lengths away from others at all times
- Don’t sit next to others for coffee or a beer or lunch – maintain distance.
Social distancing is not the same as self-quarantine or isolation, two other practices being utilised to minimise the coronavirus spread. The key difference is that a quarantine or isolation restricts the movement of people within a certain area or zone to limit transferring and spreading an infection.
Social distancing places no such location constraints, rather it is a behavioural practice to lower the risk in most circumstances.
