Around the Greens – November 2019

Members,

Member updates:

Witho reports that sadly Raul Lotho‘s wife passed away earlier this year and unfortunately since then Raul has also badly torn his hamstring – which apparently must be allowed to heal naturally, so he will be absent from the course for a while – please make the effort to stay in touch, as we know this can be a difficult period for him.

Those that have missed the smell of fresh bread on a Monday morning would have noticed that Frank Biviano has not played for a while – he tells us he has a significant back injury that is proving itself to be a right pain. Frank is managing his work and daily routine (just) but a return to the golf course is still a fair way off.

We wish both members a speedy recovery and a quick return to the green.  Frank, maybe you can practice your putting in readiness for the mini-golf challenge!

As always you have news to share, catch up with Witho around (not in) the traps and pass it on.

Course update:

No doubt those of you that have played since last Friday have already remarked on the great condition the course is in. The weekend saw vastly improved greens, cut to 3 mm instead of a furry 4.5 mm, and some genuinely challenging pin locations that I have never had the privilege (nor trepidation) to putt to before.

Let’s please make sure we make all the ground staff from Landscape Solutions welcome; give them a wave or say hello (but try not to disturb their work).

Andrew Wright, the new Superintendent, is a top bloke and has great vision for the future. It is requested that any reports regarding the Course go through Brock or your Committee – not directly to the ground staff.

** Please remember that ground staff have right of way at all times, and we don’t wan’t their brand new machinery pelted with golf balls!

Should there ever be any reports of discourteous behaviour toward ground staff – as apparently happened today with some public players in between the competition groups – they will be swiftly addressed. A healthy, respectful relationship is essential to the success of the Club and the Course.)

Beware: 🐍🐍🐍 have been sighted today.

As the weather warms up, be extra careful; particularly around water and the reeds.

Regards,

Stuart Thompson

President YGC
