YGC AGM Summary & Highlights

Published on 14th September 2019 in Uncategorized

Fellow members,

It was great to see so many members at Saturday’s Annual General Meeting, it shows that we are all very invested in our Club and its future.

Reports were tabled and finances examined and a number of contentious issues were presented and vigorously debated.

Belgravia Leisure’s Michael McKay and Course Pro (and YGC member) Brock Gillard were on hand to present Ron Manning with his Belgravia Footy Tipping Competition Winner’s Cheque, and congratulations to our other members Peter Devlin (2nd) and Jacqueline Lamoureux (3rd). Michael also presented the vision of the future for Yarrambat Park Golf Course and precincts; including plans the Goanna (Mini) Golf park, Café, Driving Range as well as additional avenues of funding improvements to the Course.

Pending publication of the full minutes, a few key topics were presented and votes taken, the highlights being;

  • The Club is financially sound, and as promised last year, ‘broke even’ across 2018/2019
  • Membership subscription fees will remain at;
    • $150 – Full member
    • $75   – Members 75 yrs & over at 31 October 2019. (if details are up to date in the member listing)
    • $35   – Junior (under 18)
    • $50   – Joining fee
    • $25   – Late subscription renewal fee
  • A new category of membership – Affiliate Member – was introduced to encourage members of both nearby and far flung Clubs, as well as those casual Yarrambat green fee players who are known to be members of  other clubs, to join the ranks at Yarrambat Golf Club:
    • Affiliate Member: An new member applicant who is already a member of another (Australian) Golf Club and who maintains that (other) Club as their Home Club for Golflink purposes.
      • $75 annual subscription with a $25 joining fee
  • Competition prize structure / grading will remain unchanged – with the flexibility to review grades separations on a day to day or competition by competition, basis as permitted under the By-Laws and previously published. NTP’s, Eagle’s Nest and the additional voluntary competition for the King Pin will remain unchanged.
  • The new Computer hardware/ Software and scorecard system have been ordered and will arrive shortly, with the Club to also provide members a new MiScore Scorecard holder.
  • The Committee is also investigating the appointment of a Welfare Officer, to act as a conduit between the club, the members and those members who may be experiencing ill-health or other personal battles. The details of how this will work – with due consideration for member’s privacy etc.,  are yet to be finalised, with the underlying aim being to keep those aforementioned members in touch with the Club and members and vice versa. Further details will follow on this initiative.

I commend all those who nominated to serve our Club – it can be both challenging and rewarding, and I congratulate each member of the Committee for stepping up. I remind all members to consider that the Committee does its very best to represent and balance the best interests of the whole Club, and that sometimes what one individual feels strongly about, may not be what the rest of the Club want, nor be what is best for the whole Club.

We look forward to continuing the partnership we have established with Michael, Brock and the Course management team, as well as with the new the ground staff and the Committee and members of the YPLGC.

Regards, and good golfing,

Stuart Thompson

President
