New Prize Payout Formula
Published on 25th April 2018 in UncategorizedThe committee have been working on ways to make the prize payouts consistent and broader than the current table allows.
This work has resulted in a new formula, which will be introduced from May. It ensures:
– That the ball rundown is larger and reflects the number of players in the field (one ball in the rundown for every 10 players)
– That the total prize payout is always consistent (85% of the comp entry monies received after NTP’s and one ball Eagle’s Nest provision)
For those of you who like to know the nuts and bolts, the following calculation is an example of the new formula:
Total number of players who paid their entry fee (may differ from number of players who registered to play, due e.g. to a member forgetting to pay the entry fee) = 86
Total fees collected (86 x $5) $430
Less 4 NTP’s and 1 Eagle’s Nest (5 x$6) -$30
Available for other prizes, including ball rundown- 85% of ($430-$30)= $340
Ball rundown – one ball for every 10 players (8 x $6) = -$48
Balance split between grade winners and runners up ($340-$48) = $292
Number of grades – more than 48 players, therefore = 3 grades
Grade winners (60% of $292) = $177 divided by three grades= $59 each
Runners up (40% of $292) =$114 divided by three grades= $38 each
Note that at this stage their is No change in the switchover from one grade to two, two grades to three.
The switchovers are:
– less than 12 players – no competition (exception – Super Senior’s Thursday comp)
– 12 players to 27 players – 1 grade
– 28 players to 48 players – 2 grades
– 49 players and above – 3 grades
I hope that this transparent formula will allow us all to understand the prize payouts in the future.
