I am pleased to announce that at yesterday’s committee meeting, the Wednesday competition was confirmed as our permanent, exclusive midweek tournament.

The support for this tournament is such that we often have a full field and the numbers exceed our Saturday competition. So the decision to move to Wednesday and therefore to have an additional 24 slots, has proved its worth.

There are a number of our older midweek players who would prefer to have the extra day’s break, so following an approach by John Fletcher, the committee has approved a trial ‘Super Senior’s’ comp.

This is open to members 70 years and over, will be played on Thursdays and the tee-off times are between 12:30 pm and 2 pm. The trial will run for three months (April, May and June).

It should have an added benefit in reducing the pressure on Wednesday slots, particularly as the daylight hours become shorter. (It goes without saying that the Wednesday comp is open to all members, regardless of age).

Finally, I am taking some time off and wish the Pennant team every success and, for the rest of our membership, good golfing.
